2021 IT Projects – Endpoint MFA

What is Endpoint MFA?

Endpoint Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to respond to requests to verify their identities before they can access the Nutramax network. Much like the Microsoft authenticator many use today for accessing Outlook or Teams, this technology requests additional authentication at the network level when you sign into a computer.

Why do we need Endpoint MFA?

Endpoint MFA was a recommended security mitigating during our annual security audit. We agree that with Endpoint MFA in place, the Nutramax environment will be safer and less prone to attack.

How does Endpoint MFA work?

When a user enters their password at the Windows log-on prompt, they will be sent a MFA request to an app on their phone, much like the Microsoft Authenticator, or a text message. Once the second authentication is completed by the user via push notification, biometrics, or text code, they will be allowed to continue into the Nutramax environment. The solution has some settings that we will be optimizing, such as how often to require Endpoint MFA, where to require it from, and settings to have it work in conjunction with other programs.

When will Endpoint MFA here?

The IT Team is already in a proof of concept phase for this product. We will be testing this product with Alpha and Beta groups in the coming months, and plan to push this out to all users before the end of the year.

Key points to remember:

As with the Microsoft MFA authenticator, Endpoint MFA should only be approved if you are requesting access to an application and expecting a notification from the app. If you receive a notification unexpectedly, please do not approve it, and reach out to This email address is being protected from spambots. Nutramax has always been security conscience regarding our data, and with recent news of ransomware attacks, we think Endpoint MFA is a great tool to help prevent security breaches. Nutramax uses many layers of security tools to help prevent security breaches, but one of the last lines of defense is you! As always, please do not hesitate to report anything suspicious to the Helpdesk.
